Running in Catalina Echo Marathon

Fall and spring are some of the most beautiful times to visit Catalina Island. The change of seasons may be subtle in Southern California, but Mother Nature offers up mild temperatures and spectacular nature beauty on Santa Catalina.

Fall and spring are also prime time for endurance events on the island. One of Catalina’s most popular runs, the Catalina Eco-Marathon takes place on Nov. 21, attracting some of the country’s top distance athletes. With 22 miles on trails as well as dramatic elevation changes, this race is one of the more challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding. Runners are treated to dramatic views of the Pacific, spectacular ridgelines and awe-inspiring wildlife like bison and bald eagles.

Not quite up for a 26.2 mile run in less than eight hours? The Catalina Eco-Marathon also features a half marathon as well as a 10K run. Kids who’d like to challenge themselves can do so with the Kids Fun Run.

Catalina Island Vacation Rentals offers the ideal accommodations option for racers, with full kitchens to fuel up before the run and plenty of room to celebrate after the race. Proceeds from the Catalina Eco-Marathon benefit the Catalina Island Conservancy, the organization responsible for preserving the island in its natural state in perpetuity.
