The Catalina Island calendar brims with special events. From music to art, athletic events to wine festivals, Catalina offers something for everyone. Some of Avalon’s special events have been held every year for more than half a century; others have been added to the calendar much more recently. One of the newest events has quickly become one of Catalina’s most popular holiday events.

The Catalina Island Museum’s Holiday Symphony Concert brings an ensemble from the Stanford University Symphony Orchestra to the incomparable Avalon Casino Theatre. Made possible by the support of several sponsors, including Catalina Island Vacation Rentals and Catalina Island Real Estate, the concert is free to the public. With a program that includes Beethoven, Grieg and Wagner, this year’s concert promises the drama of the classics. Seating opens at 6 p.m. for museum members and at 6:30 p.m. for the general public. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11 and will be preceded by the museum’s Holiday Open House from 4 to 7 p.m. Museum members and non-members alike are invited to the open house, which offers free admission, hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and discounts in the Catalina Island Museum store.
