While Avalon’s charming shops, tempting restaurants and picturesque waterfront is the face of Catalina Island for millions of visitors, it’s the interior of Catalina Island that offers a real look at what this Southern California Island is all about. Dramatic seascapes, challenging terrain and unique wildlife make Santa Catalina Island a nature lover’s dream. Thanks to the Catalina Island Conservancy, charged with preserving the island in its natural state in perpetuity, Catalina will continue to be a natural respite for generations to come.

Seeing the interior of the island should be part of every visit to Catalina. Hiking the trails, touring the landscape and experiencing the wonder are a great way to learn more about this unique destination. Even if your time is short, there are several ways to get out and see the interior. The Wildlands Express Shuttle, operated by the Conservancy, offers a convenient, no-hassle way to see some of what the island has to offer. Offering shuttle service from Avalon to the Airport-in-the-Sky, Little Harbor and Two Harbors, the Wildlands Express Shuttle is available for hikers, bikers and adventurers – as well as those who would just like a quick ride into Catalina’s interior.
