The new museum on Catalina Island provides a wealth of new opportunities for things to do in Avalon. With thousands of square feet of exhibit space, the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Catalina Island Museum offers art, culture and history – as well as one of the most architecturally interesting buildings to be constructed on the island since the Catalina Casino.
As of August, the new Catalina Island Museum also offers First Fridays—a whole new reason to plan a visit to Santa Catalina. Each month, the museum will offer an evening program showcases one of its four prime areas of focus: art, music, history and film. During First Fridays visitors and locals alike will be able to both enjoy the museum’s regular exhibits and experience a unique cultural opportunity. Scheduled for the first Friday of every month, the new program will allow museum supporters to involve themselves with the museum in a new way.
The first First Friday program will focus on music with a performance by Hot Off The Range, a local bluegrass band. For the program, the museum will reopen at 6 p.m., with the band playing outside in the Schreiner Family Plaza from 7 to 9 p.m. Beer, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase.
