Nightlife on Catalina Island offers everything from moonlight strolls along the waterfront to a classic nightclub pumping the latest hits out until the wee hours of the morning. Wine bars, sports bars and dive bars are all represented, as are late-night burger joints offering tempting after-hours food options.

Catalina Island also offers a movie theatre that brings the golden age of Hollywood to life. Located in the ground floor of the Catalina Casino, the Avalon Theatre is home to nightly first-run movies. It offers a reminder of the great movie palaces that once hosted the likes of Garbo, Chaplin and Flynn and was built when technology first made movies talk.  Surrounded by dynamic art deco murals created by John Gabriel Beckman, the theatre is worth seeing even if the movie isn’t.

No matter what your evening interests are, nightlife on Catalina Island needs to involve a saunter along the Avalon waterfront. With gentle breezes, the soothing susurrus of the sea and the irresistible allure of the moon reflecting on the water, there’s no better place in Southern California for a romantic stroll.
