Delicious aromas of chili will soon be wafting from South Beach in Avalon on Catalina Island. The Rotary Club of Avalon is hosting a Chili Cook-off on May 21. Officially sanctioned by the International Chili Society, the Catalina Chili Cook-off will include competitions for best chili, best salsa and best chili verde as well as a People’s Choice competition open to amateur chili cookers and salsa concocters. Those who are more interested in tasting chili rather than cooking it, will be able to purchase tickets to the cook-off for $10 by clicking here.
The family-friendly event will also include a variety of games for kids and kids at heart as well as a raffle with a wealth of prizes both large and small. The fun begins at 11 a.m. at South Beach, located between the Pebbly Beach Road and the Avalon Pleasure Pier. Proceeds from the Catalina Chili Cook-off will benefit two of Catalina Island’s service clubs, the Avalon Rotary Club and the Avalon Lions Club. The two organizations support a variety of programs and causes on Catalina Island and around the world.
